Fire Strategies
Do you require a Fire Strategy Report?
A fire strategy is a complex document specifically tailored to a premises or building. It will review all aspects of the building’s fire safety features including compartmentation strategy, construction, means of escape and other fire safety measures to ensure it is fit for use.
A fire strategy report will be produced at the design stage of a building in conjunction with architectural plans and forms part of the overall design submission package to building control. The report will provide among other things, details of occupancy levels permitted within the building against the provision of horizontal and vertical means of escape and fire compartmentation.
The requirement for an in-depth fire strategy is not only applicable to new builds; they can also be produced for existing buildings. These are often known as ‘retrospective fire strategies’. As mentioned above, a fire strategy document forms an essential basis on which to conduct the fire risk assessment which would occur nearer completion.
Fire strategies should only be developed by a suitably competent person with comprehensive training and experience – preferably an accredited fire engineer or fire risk assessor. All our reports meet the recommended guidelines and requirements of a fire strategy report and take approximately 14 days to produce, depending on the complexity of the building and the design approach implemented. Our London fire engineering team are all fully accredited fire engineers with many years experience in the industry and our reports are of the highest standard.
A fire strategy report is a technical document that sets the basis for fire safety control measures from the design of a building. It is not a fire risk assessment, fire evacuation plan or a fire safety plan. It is required to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations, covering:
- Means of warning
- Means of escape
- Internal fire spread
- External fire spread
- Access to fire brigade personnel
- Facilities for fire brigade personnel
- Fire safety management
